PhotoMed's variable-wavelength therapy aims to improve physiological functioning and to reduce pain experienced by people underserved by conventional interventions and discrete-wavelength therapies.

The Varichrome® Pro lets the body select the wavelengths that it needs to resume or accelerate healing. The photons provide the "right" information and energy that the healing systems have been waiting for.

The Varichrome® Pro has a 1/4-20 thread in the bottom of the device. The handle has an anti-rotation pin the should be engaged in the slot before the lock wheel is finger tightened. The unit can be mounted on a tripod.

The Varichrome® Pro is battery operated via a polarized cable. The end with the white band labeled "Battery" is plugged into the battery. The unmarked end gets plugged into the device.

Selector Dials

The Varichrome Pro addresses fundamental limitations of discrete wavelength therapies:

  • The wavelength needed are unknown until the therapy"works".

  • Multiple different wavelengths may be needed to prompt improved functioning,

  • Stimulation from non-varying sources tend to be ignored after a few seconds.

The user varies the wavelengths and frequencies via 4 selector dials that may be adjusted during therapy. The aim of the therapy is to prompt the body to resume its normal tasks of balance, healing, and pain relief. We call this the return to normal functioning.

Two settings are typically used to

begin therapy:

 

  • W2, Intensity Mid, F0, R3

 

  • W3, Intensity Mid, F0, R3

Users of discrete-wavelength devices may be curious that testing found no "best" wavelength.

The analog controls let the user efficiently find wavelengths that benefit the individual injury. It is the variations, rather than specific wavelengths or intensities, that the body is programmed to detect.

That is, the body selects the wavelengths it needs to resume or accelerate healing.

We suggest running the Intensity dial at mid range. You can increase the intensity to stimulate larger areas or when using an accessory fiber optic cable,

Preset Wavelength Ranges, Times, & Uses described in medical literature over the past 150 years.

The template settings (W2, W3, & W7) were found in PhotoMed's feasibility studies to be efficient starting points for stimulating the body to resume its ordinary balancing and functioning.

W2 (Orange) emits wavelengths from yellow thru middle red that provide stimulation from the red portion of the visible spectrum. This setting covers wavelengths used by many discrete-wavelength devices for musculoskeletal pain and impairments.

W3 (Green) emits wavelengths that provide stimulation from the green and blue portions of the visible spectrum. This setting often used for a feeling of relaxation when applied to the face and stimulating as a complement to W2 on other parts of the skin.

Templates W2 and W3   0:32

W7 (Full spectrum) emits wavelengths from the visible spectrum (430 to700nm), a few wavelengths at time.  The Rate dial is usually set to R1 to get more repetitions of each wavelength. This setting runs for 5 minutes.

Other settings

W1 (Deep Red) emits wavelengths from the red spectrum that spans the most popular discrete red wavelengths in the 630 to700nm range. 1000s of studies describe the effects of this wavelength range.

W4 (Blue) emits wavelengths from the blue spectrum. Selections W3, W4, and W5 may provide calming effects for skin irritations. The Frequency dial may be adjusted and dithered to a frequency that the person "feels" the stimulation.

W5 (Violet) emits wavelengths from the violet spectrum. Note that violet is a spectral name whereas purple is a mixture of red and blue wavelengths. Selections W3, W4, and W5 may provide calming effects for skin irritations. The Frequency dial may be adjusted and dithered to a frequency that the person "feels" the stimulation.

The Frequency dial provides analog control of the interruption frequency of the beam.

Techniques

Painting moves the beam slowly to illuminate the area a portion at a time. The high contrast of the beam edge is an element in the therapy by stimulating the center-surround-inhibition mechanisms in addition to the wavelengths and frequencies.

Painting 0:45

The Beam Limiter provides a high contrast edge where the beam abruptly transitions from off to full wavelength. This is important for painting areas.

 

The fiber-optic cable without the Beam Limiter spreads the light out in a cone that has an off-wavelength low-contrast edge.

Some problems, such as inflammation, need a long exposure to W1 Deep Red light to make significant progress.

 

The Single Cable without the Beam Limiter can be convenient for illuminating a large area and painting is not needed. Red wavelengths can be applied for 10 to 20 minutes to the knee area, for example. Press the Start button to keep the therapy active.

Single and Dual Fiberoptic Cables

The Single Cable lets the user set down the Varichrome® Pro. This especially useful when long therapy times are desired, such as W1 Deep Red for inflammation in joints.

Relaxation Mask

Relaxation Mask

The Relaxation Mask lets the eye receive spectrally pure wavelengths. Colors such as campfire orange are missing from RGB screens and VR masks.

The varying wavelengths and frequencies are like going to the gym for the visual system. The non-focusing fields let the eyes relax and do some housekeeping. The Mask may help recover from the abnormal environment of VR masks that keep the eyes aligned and focused at infinity while the illusion of distance is provided by adjusting the two image locations and local contrasts.

Ask if the person has problems with flickering light. We suggest that the wearer adjust the Frequency dial to avoid frequencies that may be annoying.

Relaxation Mask 5:40

Two settings are typically used during the first session.

  • W7, Intensity Min, F0, R3 for one button press

  • W2, Intensity Min, F0, R3 for two button presses

The Mask wearer may like to "play" with the settings in a self-guided experience. Place the Varichrome Pro in the person's lap.

 

With the Mask off, show the wearer how the controls work ending with the Preset dial in the "Manual" position.

Settings 1:13

Replace the Mask, have the wearer press the start button and then adjust the Wavelength dial to find their favorite or most relaxing wavelength. Let them experience that wavelength while adjusting the Intensity dial for a not-too-bright setting.

Next, move their fingers to the Frequency dial and let them explore the frequency domain in their favorite wavelength.

The full experience involves trying different Wavelengths, Presets, R1-R3, and the Frequencies.

About 20 minutes gives a workout of the visual systems. It's okay to stop before getting too tired.
